CLUB HISTORY

History timeline

1975 – Three Clubs amalgamated to form the Casa D’Abruzzo Club; these were Francesco Paolo Michetti Club, Abruzzo e Molise Club and Sulmona Marane Social Club.

1976 – A fourth Club, the Peninsula Social Club, amalgamated with Casa D’Abruzzo.

1978 – The then Committee had the vision to purchase 8 hectares of rural land in O’Herns Road, Epping to build the clubhouse.

1980 – Building Permits were obtained and on the 8th of April excavation works commenced. The project was financed entirely by the generosity of members of the Club who donated materials, machinery and many hours of voluntary work. Every weekend, members would gather at O’Herns Road and whilst the men undertook the heavy excavation and building works, the women would provide food and beverages.

1982 – The Aquila Hall, Members room and eight Bocce Courts (uncovered) were completed and ready for the official opening on the 6th March.

The hard work and enthusiasm of all members paid off and the Club was officially opened by the Ambassador of Italy Dr. Sergio Angeletti and the Hon Lindsay Thompson CMG MP, the then Premier of Victoria.

Club members were also honored by the attendance and participation of the first official delegation to Australia from the Region of Abruzzo.
